Road trip
Québec City was my first Canadian city! It was also my first time in Canada and my first time driving in a foreign country. So many firsts! Québec is known for forcing everyone to know french so naturally I tried learning as much french as I could before arriving and I think I did a pretty good job. Although they could all tell I was struggling, I tried my hardest and that's what counts.
I stayed at the Auberge Internationale de Québec which was a youth hostel provided by hostelling international. It was a pretty good hostel. Québec City itself was a super cute town. There is an old section which is where the hostel is which is super fun to walk around. There is also a newer part of town where all the new 'hip' bars and clubs are.
The food was pretty phenomenal as well. I had a croissant at Paillard which reminded me of Paris. I also ended up having a maple syrup crepe at Le Casse-Crêpe Breton which was pretty phenomenal. I knew I was pretty good at French when I got through almost the whole meal without the waitress switching to English! It wasn't until she asked if I wanted more hot water for my tea that I got lost. Too many words and some of them were new so I didn't understand. I felt bad, but pretty proud that I got through 90% of my meal before she switched. Next time I go for 100%!
All in all I loved Québec city! I can't wait to go back one of these days.
